What
is happiness in your mind? I asked the couple of people what made him/her
happy. Their answers were as follows:
·
A big huge Mercedes car.
·
A shopping spree at the mall with no limitations on the
money spent.
·
A laptop with the latest hacking software loaded on it and
enough money to buy stuff for it.
·
A huge house with a swimming pool, Jacuzzi, fields, horses
and big bedrooms, American kitchen.
The
common thread to link them all is money, reputation, latest fads and in one
case a huge appetite. The fact is that in today’s modern age, happiness is
completely materialistic. It is either linked to selfish interests. For a
normal human a good life is one where they earn a lot and have a lot. A good
life is not classified by helping others, doing something for charity or
enjoying the little things in life.
Some
people believe that this really isn’t something to be worried about. Some
parents encourage their children to look at self needs before other’s need for
a more productive lifestyle. Slowly but steadily, people are forgetting the
true essence of what it means to be happy and content. Desires have gained
precedence over altruism.
Gone
are the days when helping out in a charitable organization or watching rain
from a window were deemed as the good things in life. Today people looks for
air conditioned malls and plush interiors. Remember the times our parents were
satisfied by a single samosa of “athanay” or the first rainfall of the season.
When
was the last time you went out and just wet yourself in the rain for the pure
pleasure of it, not worrying about your designer clothes? When was the last
time you helped a person and feel warmth inside you? When was the last time you
were not bored of your laptops, televisions, facebooking and music systems? When
was the last time you were happy, just for being alive? When was the last time
you were happy about being able to be happy?
For
me happiness is when the people smile because of me. For me happiness is when
my parents hold my hands, for me happiness is the process of "GIVE AND TAKE".
yayyy this is what I believe in.... very good
